The Woodpecker

Dating back to 1840, this building has worn many hats. It was once the Original Woodman, then became the much-loved French 1930s jazz wine bar Le QuecumBar (pronounced "cucumber"), followed by a Louisiana Lounge and Creole kitchen with live music. In 2025, it came full circle when Michelle, her husband Jason, and daughter Izzie lovingly brought it back to life as a pub, after a six month refurbishment. Running pubs is nothing new for the family as they also own the Raven in Tower bridge, and judging by both venues, they clearly have a soft spot for birds. Just as the Raven has a watchful taxidermy raven, the Woodpecker proudly displays a taxidermy woodpecker above the bar. If you're lucky, you might even spot the resident pigeons dozing on the roof, proof that even the local birds approve of the place!
Take a walk through Battersea Square, with terraces and trees that make you feel like you're on the other side of the Channel, then stop by the Woodpecker for a delicious locally sourced menu, a refreshing beer, and a chance to mingle with nearby badminton club members, teachers from the local schools, and parents popping in after the school run, all in a stylish space with green, black and wood accents, sprinkled with bird themed touches.
