A historic pub in Deptford, back from the dead
This Victorian building, which first opened as a pub in the 1880s, proudly wears its Truman’s Brewery heritage with a traditional, distinctive tiled beige exterior that pairs perfectly with the majestic lantern hanging above the entrance, almost beckoning anyone passing by to step inside and uncover this hidden gem. Once inside, prepare to be wowed by the original Vitrolite ceiling from the 1930s and a stunning central bar that is ready to welcome you.
The building had been closed for a very long time, and many in the area wondered if it would ever reopen. With pubs increasingly disappearing to become flats or grocery stores, it was a most pleasing surprise when locals learnt it would reopen in 2025, thanks to passionate publicans and partners in life, Parys and Amanda, as the Wolf’s Tavern. Why this moniker? The couple named it after their beloved husky companion, Zeus! Expect to delight your taste buds with Italian-inspired dishes: pizzas, charcuterie boards, and to-die-for bites made with Sicilian ingredients.

Welcome around the clock and beneath its glass
The pub’s 1930s ceiling is made from the same glass used in Big Ben’s clock, one of the city’s most enduring timekeepers. In fitting fashion, the pub marks its own hours by opening bright and early at 8 am, welcoming guests for breakfast. However, do not expect it to close early, as it almost goes around the clock, staying open until 2:30 am for night owls. Unusual for a pub, yet the owners wanted it to be a place open to all, at any time.
