A cosy haven of quirky treasures

Built in 1825, the Kings Arms stands as one of London’s original Gin Palaces (staying true to its heritage with an extensive selection of gins!). The pub is located in the heart of Shad Thames which was once known as Jacob’s Island. In the 19th century, this area was notorious for its winding alleys, warehouses, and bustling dockside industry. It even found its way into the works of Charles Dickens - most famously in Oliver Twist - where it was portrayed as one of London’s most infamous slums.
Today, the vibrant red facade of this gem still shines proudly in this thriving neighbourhood, where historic charm meets modern vibrancy. Locals and tourists alike are drawn in, welcomed by an eclectic and ever-changing décor that boldly defies minimalism, and a cosy, candlelit atmosphere. From quirky frames and unique illustrations to those impossible-to-miss lampshades, every nook and cranny is a treasure waiting to be discovered!
This one-of-a-kind ambiance is the handiwork of Tamra and Robyn, the affable duo who’ve been at the helm for over 20 years - a rare feat in today’s pub scene! But spend just a few moments there, and it will become clear why the place has thrived under their care.

Blending sustainability with community spirit

At the Kings Arms, sustainability is key – so much so that you’ll find eco-friendly soaps, hand washes, and biodegradable cups throughout the pub, unusual, isn’t it? The Kings Arms also proudly champions the local community, from hosting events like Watercolour Wednesday (just grab free art supplies at the bar and paint your masterpiece right at your table) to supporting local artisans with the ‘Snug Shop,’ a cosy in-pub boutique brimming with handcrafted treasures. The pub even sells stunning lampshades crafted by a talented neighbour. Are you an art lover? Donate to charity and receive some of the best creations from the Watercolour sessions!
