Blood, sweat, and tears: reviving a local that champions community

Opened as a pub in 1878, the Hollydale has long been part of the neighbourhood and has witnessed Peckham’s evolution over time. Like many pubs, the building was closed in 2019, and part of it was transformed into apartments. It remained shuttered for a while but when Richard, a passionate hospitality professional, visited the then boarded-up establishment for the first time in 2021, he saw the potential and began an impressive refurbishment. After years of hard work, planning, and investment, the place finally reopened in 2024 and you can tell the blood, sweat, and tears poured into this treasure have been worth it: today, the Hollydale welcomes you into a bright, modern, minimalist space, complete with a beautiful wooden bar. At the Hollydale, it’s all about community and local pride. Out in the beer garden, a colourful mural for El Rayo — a tequila with Peckham roots — sets the scene. Inside, you’ll spot painted birds by local artist Fran Giffard, adding charm to every corner. Hungry? The famous cheeseburger is all homemade with, of course, local produce. And don’t miss the community noticeboard, because why scroll online when you can find what you need over a pint?

Cinema chairs at the Hollydale, independent pub in Peckham, South East London.

Sit back. Sip up.

Spot some truly one-of-a-kind seats: former red leather cinema chairs, rescued from an antique shop and still in excellent condition. Ready for your front-row experience? Pull them open, sit back as if a movie’s about to start… but the only blockbuster you’ll enjoy is a perfectly poured pint and a legendary double smash cheeseburger!

Quote from Richard, landlord of the Hollydale, independent pub in Peckham, South East London.
