The £250k makeover that transformed bare concrete into a City gem

The story of this pub is quite unusual – and definitely worth hearing. Wife-and-husband duo Monique and Pete, long-time publicans in the City of London, had been searching for a place to create a new, welcoming hub. But finding the right location for a pub in London is no easy feat, and the competition from big chains is fierce. Driven by passion, the determined pair made a bold and courageous move by taking over a vacant space in an Edwardian Baroque-style building - a hallmark of City architecture - that once housed a Lloyds Bank branch. They invested £250,000 of their life savings to transform this bare concrete shell into a warm, inviting spot for workers and tourists alike.
The result is nothing short of stunning, thanks to the impeccable taste of ever-bubbly Monique, who personally selected every detail – from the floor to the picture frames.

Blood, sweat, and tiles

£250k might seem like a lot, but it’s a modest sum for such a big makeover. To stay within budget, Monique and Pete have been working day and night to make this space inviting, doing as much as possible themselves, including carefully lining up the floor tiles. Kudos to them!
