Sustainable sips, local flavours and community spirit

Just a few minutes from Wanstead Hospital, a striking 1861 building that has served as an orphanage, a coven, and later a hospital, stands a beloved local pub. Once known as the Duke of Edinburgh, it has long welcomed NHS workers and nearby residents. Tucked in the surrounding streets, the pub shows off a blue Tudor-style facade with traditional brickwork, centred around a striking bar and a bold floor of black-and-white tiles mixed with warm wood. An unexpected pairing that works beautifully! The landlord Ronnie, born and raised in Wanstead, has put all his heart into making this place a true community hub, from summer street parties for local residents to year-round gatherings in the cosy heated beer garden. The pub also supports small and local businesses, helping them thrive. Expect dishes featuring produce from family-run farms, including a grass-fed, sustainably sourced beef burger. On the drinks side, the team serves beers from independent breweries, including the very local East London Brewing Company. Feeling adventurous? Try Tiempo Tequila, made with the same care for sustainability, no additives or chemicals, recycled glass, sustainable labels, and natural cork.

Treat your taste buds to Michelin-starred chef magic

At the Duke, classic, hearty pub food is always on the menu, but the team likes to shake things up. Every so often, they hand the reins to Michelin-starred chef Lee Westcott, who turns the season’s best ingredients into show-stopping set menus.
