A pub which instantly melts one’s heart!
Despite its out of the way location, everyone knows the homely Dog and Bell in Deptford. By veering off the beaten track, you’ll be rewarded with a wonderful red fronted treasure, where every patron feels welcome. Casting an eye over the delightful mural on the side of the pub, there is no doubt about the favourite beverage of the place, run by the gregarious Irish owner Seamus: Guinness!
Not a fan of a pint of plain? No worries! You can also imbibe a delightful beer from the wide range of mouth-watering ales the pub has to offer!
Whether wishing to socialise in the enchanting beer garden adorned with lush greenery when the sun makes an appearance, or prefer to sit next to the roaring fire whilst admiring the overloaded fairy Christmas decorations to warm yourself up in winter, you’ll always feel at home.
Such is the buildings effortless charm and enjoyable pub life force that time passes quickly at the Dog and Bell. Always something to enjoy along with ‘the craic’ here, you can play at one of the few remaining old billiards tables in London, chat with the cheerful regulars, or simply pet Monty, the famous resident dog which even stars on the pub sign.
Don’t miss the Pickle Festival.
Every year, in November, the Dog & Bell team organises the Pickle Festival. Expect a warm and vibrant atmosphere with live music. No one really knows how (nor why) this unique pub-based village fete has been initiated, which makes it even more unusual. For this special occasion, you can taste and vote for your favourite pickle but also… cakes, hot sauce, preserves, chutney and even ceramics or photography. Quirky!
