A little corner of Lambeth history
Standing proudly on the corner opposite the former Bedlam Hospital, this pub has been welcoming locals since 1825. It has collected plenty of stories over the years, including one that seems to be a Lambeth pub tradition: Charlie Chaplin used to stop by for a drink.
Rebuilt in 1879, the pub became part of Charrington (don't miss the original Toby Jug tiles outside!) and later BrewDog, before cheerful landlord Bruno took over in 2025, transforming it into the warm and welcoming local you'll find today.
Expect wooden floors, plush leather seating, classic wooden furniture and softly hanging lamps that create a cosy atmosphere. When hunger strikes, tuck into hearty pub favourites including Beer Battered Fish & Chips, Homemade Pie & Mash, hand cut chips, or, if you're feeling indulgent, a Deep Fried Mars Bar.
Once for the curious, now for the view
One of the pub’s biggest draws is the stunning terrace, reached by a narrow spiral staircase. Rumour has it that locals used to watch patients strolling through the hospital grounds from here. Had they been around today, they might have found the view less entertaining, with workers and tourists now enjoying the Imperial War Museum Park instead. But the stunning view over the park is definitely worth enjoying with a drink when the weather allows!
